Vacation Savings

We are planning a trip to Florida next month, and when we travel we always rent out a private home, which we feel is much better value over a hotel. Part of our trip will bring us to Fort Lauderdale. We searched and searched for the right home to rent out, but the prices were much higher than we wanted to pay. We decided to look outside of the Fort Lauderdale area and found a beautiful beach-front penthouse condo for less than half of what we would have paid to stay right in Fort Lauderdale.
So, in exchange for being 8 miles out of downtown, we will cut our accommodations budget by almost $1,000!  We will keep most of that saved money in the bank, but now we have a little more to spend on day trips and attractions, like visiting the Everglades. Love the savings and cannot wait for some sunshine!

  1. We usually do the same thing with our holidays. A home is more convenient for a family, as you can cook your own meals etc, saving money on eating out. Plus I like the idea of paying for something owned by individuals rather than massive companies.

  2. We also rent private homes when we vacation - it's like a whole new world opened up to us. Privacy without cleaning staff having access to your personal belongings, more space and we can cook for ourselves. I have a life threatening food allgery, which is what got us to start renting places with kitchens in the first place. Now we feel like this is the only way to travel! Savings are just a bonus.
